Many of us work in environments that can cause us injuries. These work related duties may include lifting objects or standing awkwardly for hours, but it is also possible to be injured working at a computer. Many of us work at computers for hours at a time and don't pay attention to our posture. Some of these injuries can be avoided with proper ergonomics (ergonomics is the science of adapting work processes and conditions to fit the physical capabilities of workers). The most common examples include repetitive strain injuries such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, and back injuries involving muscles, ligaments, and/or spinal discs.
If you are injured at work, it is very important to report this injury to a first aid/safety officer on the job site. The safety officer will initiate the paperwork that begins your claim. The safety officer will then help determine if a health care professional (medical doctor, chiropractor, physiotherapist...) is necessary. This is a time sensitive process, so efficient and good documentation is critical. In the absence of a safety officer, see a health care professional immediately to initiate the claim.
