stretch of the month
soleus and gastroc stretch
Runners and walkers often experience calf and/or foot tightness. Anyone experiencing calf or plantar facsia (area of the bottom of the foot) pain may benefit from a gentle stretch of the calf muscles.
Soleus stretch
Standing in a lunge position, supporting the upper body against the wall. Keeping the back heel on the floor and the knee slightly bent, bend the front knee. Shift the body weight forward through the pelvis to feel a stretch in the lower calf area.
Gastroc stretch
Standing in a lunge position, supporting the upper body against the wall. Keeping the back heel on the floor and the knee straight, bend front knee. Shift the body weight forward through the pelvis to feel a stretch in the upper calf area.
