Stretch of the Month | February 2007-- Pec Stretch
|

|
Who is it for? Everybody!
What does it stretch out? Pectoralis Major, Minor, Anterior Deltoid
Why do you need to do it?
Whenever a person is sitting at his or her desk, typing, the shoulders are rolled anteriorly causing tightness in the pectoral muscles (see picture), it causes the shoulders to roll even more so anteriorly causing biomechanical imbalances throughout the midback and neck. In order to achieve good posture, it is necessary to have loose pectoral muscles to balance out some of the strain that may occur throughout the rest of the body.
> How is it done:

-
Straighten both arms
-
Raise them both horizontally and slightly vertically above the shoulders palms facing forward
-
Lean chest forward until you feel a stretch
-
Do not shrug shoulders
Alternatively, the stretch can be performed with the assistance of a doorway.
-
Raise arm both horizontally and slightly vertically above the shoulder palm facing forward and hold on to doorway.
-
Lean forward and rotate away from doorway.
-
Repeat for other side.
