ironman canada 2007 review
It was an early morning start, but after a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run it was all over. For the pros, the day was done just after the 8.5 hour mark, but for another 8.5 hours, athletes would continue to pour in, many completing their 1st Ironman...

Minutes before start of Ironman Canada 2007 - over 2200 participants await the 7:00 am mass start
The early morning began at 5 am, with the athletes herding through the gates to get their bodies marked with their numbers and doing a last minute check of their bikes and belongings for the race. Daylight soon arrived and it looked like it was going to be a great day to race. The cannon boomed at 7:00 am, and over 2200 participants hit the water simultaneously, fighting for a piece of water to swim in. By the time the participants hit their bikes and runs, the day had proven to be nice and cool, a rarity this time of year in the Okanagan. This was a welcome condition for the athletes as one of the biggest factors of the race is usually the high temperatures.
Just before midnight, athletes were doing their last pushes to finish and as the the clock hit midnight, spectators were treated to a spectacular fireworks show that concluded the 25th Anniversary of Ironman Canada.
Congratulations to everyone who participated, those who completed their first ever Ironman and to those that achieved their personal goals. Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer on friends and family throughout the entire day - it is a long and grueling day to be a spectator!
