cycling helmet drive update

|
In May 2010, Precision health collected good-used helmets for the needy in Haida Gwaii. This was an initiative of the RCMP in that community. Precision Health was able to collect 25 helmets! Thank you to all who donated helmets! |
Here is letter and some photos from the Queen Charlotte RCMP, that we would like to share with all that donated:
On behalf of the Queen Charlotte RCMP, and our local students, please accept our sincerest thanks on your assistance with obtaining bike helmets to our RCMP "BIKE SMART" project.
Please allow me to provide a little background information on our project. This year marks our 3rd Annual event.
Our goal is to provide all our local elementary school aged children with bike helmets, and teach them about Injury Prevention, Theft Prevention, bike safety rules, and being visible. This year we are focusing on Injury/Brain Injury Prevention. Thanks to the Brain Injury Association of Canada, we have made the movie "Wipeout" available to parents/guardians/community members in hopes of educating as many people as possible on injury prevention and possible outcomes of brain injury resulting from sporting accidents. Our hope is that if more parents, adults, and local role models wear their helmets when involved in sporting activities, it will increase usage among the children, and thanks to you all, we were able to provide helmets to those in need.
We are located in a very remote First Nations Community on Haida Gwaii, BC and as such resources are very limited. The community is suffering tough economic times as well with a depressed local economy. Without your generous donation and extraordinary efforts, our project and goals would have been very difficult to achieve.
Attached are some photographs of the days events. Looking forward to a continued relationship regarding Brain Injury Prevention!
Sincere Thanks,
