Core Strength

Core muscles are simply those that girdle your trunk and pelvis. They're especially important for maintaining the stability of your body as you reach, stretch, and bend. Building core strength also could improve your posture and may protect you from lower back pain.

About 25% of North Americans are affected by back pain in a given year, and they spend more time at the medical doctor's office for back pain than for any other medical condition except high blood pressure and diabetes.
A lack core strength is often the cause of lower back pain.   The "core" is not just the abdominal muscles that we strengthen with sit ups.  The core is the band of muscles that wrap around the body, including the abdominals, obliques and the back muscles.  Unfortunately, an imbalance of strength within the core can be the cause of back pain.
