Common Golf Injuries -- Repetitive Stress Injuries

When people think about golfing they don't typically equate it as a high impact sport where people get bumped or bruised.  That being said, golfing injuries are extremely common due to the nature of the movement. Repetitive stress injuries are most common in golfers, and they occur from doing the same motion over and over again. Swinging the club once may not cause any problems in your low back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips.  But when you go to the driving range and hit 50-100 balls, not to mention all the practice swings, you are looking at at 200+ swings.  If any biomechaniclly incorrect things occur, such as using too much of your low back, the increased torque can cause microtearing in the areas causing fibrosis and adhesions to occur.  When this happens the area can get 'sticky' and not move within its full range of motion.  This can occur in the low back, shoulders, hips and most areas in the body.  This is due to scar tissue accumulating and forming restricting motion.  Treatment of these areas are done within the clinic with Active Release Technique which works wonders in freeing the scar tissue and help realign tissue to its normal orientation.
