Athlete of the Month(s) -- Benji Chu 315 Mile Marathon For Kids
In October 2006, Richmond, BC resident Benji Chu came up with the idea of running 12 marathons in one year (the equivalent of 315 miles), after completing the Portland Marathon and the Royal Victoria Marathon on back-to-back weekends. He then went on to complete the California International Marathon in December of 2006, followed by P.F.Chang's Rock N' Roll Arizona Marathon in January 2007.
The realization of his endurance and perseverance has inspired him to initiate The 315 Mile Marathon For Kids and to set a goal to raise $10,000. or more to build a new social/medical center at the SOS Children's Village in Battambang, Cambodia. The village recently opened 15 houses and an elementary school, but is still in need of a medical facility that can be used to treat orphans at the village who have lost their parents due to poverty, sickness, or as a result of landmines.
