About - The Sacroilliac Joint

The sacroiliac joint is a joint that connects the sacrum to the ilium (hip bone). It is important in stabilizing the lumbar spine as well as important in any sort of motion involving the hip. When running, the joint itself takes a lot of impact, in fact studies show that 4 times your body weight is transfered to that joint at each step during running.
It is always a good idea to get that joint checked, because often it can become fixated or "jammed" due to constant pressure. This can lead to immobility and compensation in other areas such as your lower back, hamstrings and gluteus muscles. |
