Ironman Canada 2007

This year, over 3000 participants will be attending the 25th Anniversary of Ironman Canada. Due to the anniversary year, a larger amount of participants than usual have signed on to take on this feat. Dr. McKay, after completing his first Ironman in 2006, has decided to participate a second time, along other members of the Steveston Run Club, many of whom will be doing this distance for the first time.

Ironman Canada takes place the weekend before Labour Day in Penticton, BC. An Ironman triathlon consists of a 3.8 km swim, followed by 180 km bike ride and 42.2 km run. The route is scenic, but the weather is typically hot, adding to the challenge of the distances. While the professional athletes will complete the course in under 9 hours, the race cutoff for everyone is 17 hours.
