Richmond E-Venti Marathon 2008

Runners warm up before the race.
|
On March 2, 2008, approximately 104 runners gathered in Steveston, BC to run the 3rd annual Richmond E-Venti Marathon. It was a cold morning, but the sun was making its way out and everyone was treated to Starbucks coffee and a warm up from Cardio-Core Boot Camp. Many were eager to begin the race and many volunteers came out to man water stations, direct runners and cheer them as they ran along the dyke and through the streets of Richmond, hitting every Starbucks along the way. As mentioned previously, the E-Venti Marathon is not about the fastest time, but about who has the best poker hand at the end of the race. While quite a few runners were experienced marathoners, many ran this distance for the first time that day and accomplished a new goal. |
| By the end of the day, cards were dealt and the real competition was about to begin at the awards dinner. While everyone walked away with a small prize of some sort, and enjoyed a nice meal, the real winner with the best hand walked away with over $1000. in prizes! Overall the big winner was the Richmond Public Library who benefited from this run, with all the money raised going to buy books and enhance literacy. |
