  1. "I thought it would get better on its own."
  2. "I was sore so I stayed on the couch all day to rest the muscles."
  3. "I used a heat pack all night but it was not any better this morning."

november shoe drive
WPHNewsletterHeaderhile on a flight a few months ago I read an article about a fellow in California who collects used running shoes to donate to less privileged people around Africa. I looked into a charity in Vancouver that might do the same but was shocked to see that was not something that existed. As I looked further into this I realized that people in Vancouver could definitely use the shoes as well, in particular, the Downtown East Side, so we decided to run the November Shoe Drive. For the past month we collected shoes in our Richmond and White Rock offices, as well as during our Steveston Athletic Association runs.

The shoes were gladly accepted by Covenant House and the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre.  I am very pleased with the response we received, as we managed to collect nearly 200 pairs of shoes! Thanks again to everyone who contributed!

shoe drive: the numbers
PHNewsletterHeaderThank you to everyone who went into their closets and found their old shoes to donate. We had an overwhelming response, and it took a significant amount of time to sort through them and pack them up, but now they are packed up and out the door, and we have numbers:
How many men's vs. women's shoes?
Who had the funkiest?
Who had the cleanest?
Who had the biggest?
What was the grand total?

trapezius stretch
PHNewsletterHeaderPeople who work at a computer will find the sides of their necks getting stiff and tight. Periodic stretching (every 30 minutes) is important to allow the muscles to continue to function properly.
