PHNewsletterHeaderAt this time of year we see many kids participating in running and jumping sports with pain in the knee.  There are many possibilities for knee pain so it is important to have the knee assessed by a professional who is familiar with sports injuries. The knee joint is made of many ligaments that hold the structures together and allow for movement.  A few of the important ligaments are the cruciates and the collateral ligaments.   Another structure within the knee is the meniscus which act like shock absorbers between the tibia and the femur.  Interestingly, the patella (knee cap) sits within the quadriceps muscles and attach below the knee cap to the tibia by a structure called the infrapatellar tendon.
condition of the month
Osgood-Schlatter disease

osgood-schlatterOsgood-Schlatter disease is a tendonitis (irritation of a tendon) that occurs in the tibial bone (just below the knee cap) of adolescents.  The area is a sensitive growth area and can be very disabling.  In some patients the soft tissue irritation becomes solid (ossifies) and awkward when kneeling on hard surfaces.

frequently asked question
MD Referral
Do I need a medical doctor's (MD) referral to see a chiropractor?
No, doctors of chiropractic are primary care practitioners, just like your MD. A referral is not necessary.  We do try to work with your other health care practitioners when possible.

26 bones stacked up, one on top of another
The spine is the central support structure of the body.  You must respect this structure so that it will give you strong, flexible service for a long time to come.

quadricep stretch This is an excellent stretch for anyone with tight quads.  Especially runners and cyclists.  Also very effective for helping to release the quads with Osgood-Schlatters disease.
