March is here and so is spring. Time to get outside and enjoy. Go easy on the gardening. While it is tempting to get out, pull weeds and get rid of all of what winter has left behind, it is important to remember that if you haven't done it in awhile, you might want to start slow to prevent any unwanted injuries.

richmond e-venti marathon 2008
|
|
On March 2, 2008, approximately 104 runners gathered in Steveston, BC to run the 3rd annual Richmond E-Venti Marathon. It was a cold morning, but the sun was making its way out and everyone was treated to Starbucks coffee and a warm up from Cardio-Core Boot Camp. Many were eager to begin the race and many volunteers came out to man water stations, direct runners and cheer them as they ran along the dyke and through the streets of Richmond, hitting every Starbucks along the way.

active hamstring stretch
People often do the hamstring stretch by putting their legs straight across a table or ledge and leaning into the muscle to feel the stretch. While this is a great idea and a great stretch for the muscle belly of the hamstring it often does not get to the origin of the muscle. Often times with hamstring strains its the origin by the buttocks that needs to be stretched the most. This is a stretch that will effectively target that area.

proper sleeping postion
Never sleep on your stomach. Sleep on your back or side instead. When on your back lie flat with the pillow under your head and neck and a pillow under your knees. Do not sleep with more than one pillow under your head. Your neck should not be pushed up so that your chin moves down towards your chest. A pillow should support your your neck according to natural curve, allowing your head to rest in a neutral position.
